Astral world is at best an imagination. A good one indeed. Like heaven and Hell. As far as I can understand, the bodies, on death, leaves the record of life in the mind. The body merges with the world and the mind merges with the universal mind. Depending on the quality of the individual minds, the further course is decided by the consciousness.
Thus a mind which resided in a glutton, may have still pending desires to eat. So Krishna consciousness, very liberally blesses the mind to take a form where it can eat anything. The mind is flabbergasted by the magnanimity of God and enters the allotted body, which is of a pig! Or a sex addict dying thinking about female body, may become a female next or get reborn ina form where sex can be enjoyed 24x7 (Donkey) ! Yenjoy !
We are playing with a fun loving and mischievous and even naughty (as evidenced in the stories by learned experienced ones) Krishna consciousness. It will make minds do whatever is possible and give appropriate experiences. It is all a big fun for it. The fun was created because it was bored of the solitude ! watch out. We are playing with fire !
For example Islam is a slap specifically designed by Krishna consciousness to teach the Brahmins a lesson for raping the sanathan Dharma system and introducing casteism and idol worship which were not stated in the shasthras.
These reallotment of bodies happen in real time at mind boggling lightning fast speed. Millions of minds are allotted fresh bodies in a flash ! That is the power and reach of consciousness. It is like a hyper computer with unlimited memory and speed acting on inputs as per designed prescribed paths. Religions call it Judgement day. But there is no particular day. Every moment judgements are happening all over the world.Old unsatisfied minds enter fresh bodies according to the decision of the consciousness. No stop over or rest house for souls. Actually there are no two souls. There is just one supreme soul like the palm and Jeevatmas are the fingers. That is why when two people are in love, they become silent and feel one. They reach the palm level or the solitude of the soul or somewhere close.
That is why time is compared to a circle. Where is the beginning or end in a circle ? Anywhere in a circle is a beginning or end. Actually there is no beginning or end. It keeps happening from time immemorial. Human standards and yardsticks will not work here. Simply because humans think based on the body, which itself is limited. To understand infinite is not easy. It is like trying to measure the ocean with a glass. This needs to be carefully understood by truth seekers.
That way God can be easily found out too ! Anything that is not limited is God. Try to find out what is not limited. Forget the theory that everything is God. Lets assume that everything that we can measure is not God, because it is limited. For example a stone. But the universe is just a bigger stone. It is also limited. So what is not limited? Time? Space? Mind? All these are limited. There is only one that is not limited. That is...................yes ! consciousness.
Now grab this information with both hands and seek the consciousness. Everyone has it. Everyone knows it too. Like sunlight. We do things in the light of consciousness. The inquisitive needs to ask where is the sunlight coming from rather than enjoying like a child in the sunlight. then the answers will be revealed to the persevering. That is how it is :)
