HOW TO BE A BUDDHA
What is Moksham (Salvation) ? To some it is nonsense. To all those who haven't experienced, it is. These are not stupid people either. Fanatics and die hard believers (no pun intended) whose mind is visibly stuck in religious faith, can only be skeptical about anything else. Most are in body consciousness. And each think they really exist. Right ? However, this feeling of safety is based on the body.
If the body is not there, you don't exist ?
So what are you ?
The body which can die tomorrow and become the earth ? Or the mind which is a mysterious fleeting presence which even you do not understand? What else are you ? You have a consciousness. You know it. All decisions are taken at this consciousness. But you do not know anything more about this consciousness except that it is there somewhere within Right ?
And what is ego ?
Your idea about yourself based on the body. Your entire consciousness is thus loitering about your body. And the body is perishable. Then the entire world you are in is gone to nothingness ? Then what are you so happy about yourself ? The body ? The knowledge? The Company ? All these are perishable. Why ? The sun is perishable. The earth is. The whole universe is. When th whole universe is reduced to black holes, where no life is possible, where would you and your thoughts be ? This is a scary situation.
But there is hope. The hope is that consciousness that you only know vaguely. But why not try to analyse it and follow it deeper ? After all it is your OWN consciousness. And no consciousness is different from another. The consciousness of a tree is the same as that of a mosquito, an elephant or a fish or a human. The Muslim has the same consciousness as the Hindu. The Caucasian has the same consciousnesses as the Negro. All living beings have the same consciousness.
In fact these consciousnesses are like lamps lit from an original lamp, which is termed as pure consciousness, a formless entity which is unlimited, unaffected by space and time and hence exists at all times. This is also called soul or supreme soul.
This soul is not the ego. Mind you. Ego exists only in the body consciousness. We have transcended that and reached the consciousness itself. This consciousnesses in a body is termed Jeevaathma (live soul), because it is live and still affected by the world. When his Jeevaathma by conscious surgery by self or Guru detaches itself from all relations, desires and feelings, it graduates into a higher or deeper level which is called paramaathmaa or the supreme soul.
Now watch the fun. When in animal level, the consciousness is there but the jeevathmaa is unaware of its details and whereabouts, because the instincts are active. The animal spends all life to look out for gratification of desires. In the human level, the mind does the same. Making one go after objects and people one likes. gain the attention on the external objects not in the consciousness within. The intellect will turn back when the returns from the world get reduced over repeated experiences. Then the search for the inner world begins. Until one reaches this stage, the consciousnesses will remain inside him like an unexplored island. Moksham is a journey from there to release the mind from the world, purify it so that none other is adversely affected and then by simply drop the mind too.
In all these stages, that is from an animal with instincts to a human with mind to a yogi with no mind the jeevaathma and the paramaathmaa, the sequence is fairly linear and gradual. But in all sages, the consciousness remains the same. It does not say change from a lower consciousness in the animals to a higher one in the human level. But as the evolution progresses one can experience more intense consciousnesses within. That is when one dives deeper into it. he intensiy was always there. To realize it one has to take the plunge. There is no other way. Fidgeting on the beach has no effect.
Now look where you are.
The body was forgotten in the early stages of meditation. In the latter stages, the mind is also dropped. Now what state is one in ? No body, no mind. Then ? Oceans of unending pure consciousnesses begins from there. One would wonder at the small insignificant consciousness within suddenly becomes overwhelming everything else and becomes all pervading all over the universe. This is also called God by some. But even they do not understand that it is their own true nature. They are actually the pure consciousness. But because of the body, mind and the world, this very truth about one 's self is practically ignored.
This is the only sin in this world before God.
That is to not know one's own self.
God will punish for this omission for sure. And for nothing else in particular except may be just changing the roles of the predator and the victim to even out the grievances if any ! .
And the punishment for that sin (of not understanding own self) is death
